Why Did the Ingredient List Change?

NEW UPGRADED FORMULA

Why Did the Ingredient List Change?

At Inochroma, transparency matters — especially when it comes to ingredients customers apply directly to their hair and scalp.

Some customers recently noticed that our updated Gray Hiding Treatment ingredient list now includes 5,6-Dihydroxyindole and 5,6-Dihydroxyindoline, while previous versions mainly listed Polydihydroxyindole as the primary coloring ingredient.

We’d like to explain this update as clearly and simply as possible.

The Short Answer

The core color technology itself has not fundamentally changed.

The updated ingredient list simply provides a more complete disclosure of the materials involved in creating the color system used in the formula.

Understanding the Color System

To keep things simple:

  • 5,6-Dihydroxyindole and 5,6-Dihydroxyindoline are starting materials used during manufacturing.
  • Polydihydroxyindole (Poly-DHI) is the active color form created from those materials inside the formula.

When applied to hair and exposed to oxygen in the air, this color system gradually develops into a darker pigment on the hair surface, helping create a softer and more natural-looking grey blending effect.

In other words, these ingredients are connected parts of the same overall color process.

How Inochroma's color system works

Why Are More Ingredients Listed Now?

During manufacturing, the starting materials are converted into the active color form used in the final product.

However, like many cosmetic manufacturing processes, this conversion may not always reach 100% completion. Small amounts of the original starting materials may still remain in the finished formula.

For greater transparency and labeling accuracy, the updated ingredient list now includes:

  • the active color form, and
  • the related starting materials that may still be present in small amounts.

This update reflects a more complete ingredient disclosure rather than a completely new color technology.

Has the Formula Philosophy Changed?

No.

Our core approach remains the same:

  • gradual grey blending
  • melanin-inspired color technology
  • no traditional permanent oxidative hair dye system
  • designed for users seeking a gentler alternative to conventional dye routines

The updated ingredient disclosure does not mean the product has switched to a traditional permanent hair dye formula.

Why Some Ingredient Names Sound Unfamiliar

Cosmetic ingredient names are often scientific descriptions used for regulatory and labeling purposes.

Sometimes an ingredient may sound unfamiliar even when it has already been part of the broader manufacturing or color-development process.

More detailed labeling does not necessarily mean harsher or entirely new chemistry was introduced — in many cases, it simply reflects more precise disclosure.

We believe customers deserve clear explanations rather than vague marketing language.

Our Commitment

As Inochroma continues to evolve, our goal remains the same:

to create a grey blending solution designed for people looking for a gentler, lower-maintenance alternative to traditional hair dye routines.

We will continue improving both our products and the transparency behind them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did Inochroma switch to traditional hair dye?

No. The formula still uses our gradual, melanin-inspired color approach rather than a traditional permanent oxidative dye system.

Why wasn’t 5,6-Dihydroxyindole listed before?

Earlier ingredient lists primarily focused on the active color form already present in the formula. The updated version provides a more complete disclosure of materials involved in creating that color system.

Does this mean the formula became harsher?

The updated ingredient names reflect materials related to the same existing color technology. The labeling update does not indicate a completely different dye system.

Is the product still designed for sensitive scalps?

The formula was still developed for users seeking a gentler alternative to traditional dye systems. However, individual sensitivities can vary, and patch testing is always recommended before use.
